35 years ago my teacher had me dig into Pat’s book Linear Expressions. This has impacted almost everything I play ever since.

Dude! Thanks for pointing me to that book! That shit is GOLD! I obsessed on it yesterday, and today I’m transposing those five runs everywhere on the neck, and I can feel that bebop spirit going directly into my veins, and it’s all right under the fingers, unlike Charlie Parker transcriptions. Thank you, and Pat, may his memory always be honored!

Hello Armin, your enthusiasm conveys the desire to study and get out of stagnation with the guitar and the concepts that are often mythologized in jazz due to the excess of information. Personally I think you say everything that most teachers don't say.
I would like to hear your approaches to the guitar in a trio.

This is old David Baker (1931-2016 ) stuff... before it was Martino's. David transcribed a ton of Bird, Miles, 'Trane, etc, and this became the basis of his "generic patterns".

I've used this modal idea over the dominant before. My problem is always landing on the root, this is a bad habit for me. I think that would be a great video idea to talk about how to break that habit, or something about how to target 3rd and 7th better.

Most jazz musicians play jazz this way, Pat just transcribed it on the guitar! The jazz phrasing comes from Charlie Parker! But honestly the true master and inventor of jazz is Louis Armstrong!😊

Martino used the augmented triad and the diminished 7th chord as “symmetrical parental forms”. I’m going to look into what you’re teaching here; it seems to be a great lesson!

Great tips man, been struggling with jazz blues for a while! Always good to get ideas!
Could you do a similar video with minor blues, would be great to hear you’re approach to that!

So let me see if I understand lol. Basically 1-4-5 blues we can flip it/reverse it to a 2-5-1 going into what would of been the 4 of F. Which is Bb. We can go up to the 5th of Bb and play F dorian. The part I am a little bit lost at is the D7. Where is the D7 coming from lol is it the 6 in the Key of F which we r then using it to take us back to the 2 of F which then goes to C back to F- is that the correct way to think of it? Lol
