CLASSIC MOVIE REVIEW: Barbara Stanwyck and George Brent make holiday sparks fly when they begin a controversial romance in Curtis Bernhardt’s MY REPUTATION (1946). Stanwyck plays a newly widowed woman with two teenage boys, who meets a handsome Major on a skiing trip and much to the dismay of her friends and family, falls in love and must choose between her happiness and her reputation. Eve Arden is on hand as her best friend to offer humor and consolation and Lucile Watson plays her formidable battle-ax mother. Warm and romantic, Stanwyck and Brent make a wonderful team. Beautifully photographed, the film is also lovingly scored by Warner’s favorite Max Steiner. It’s a holiday romance that you won’t want to miss. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I love "My Reputation". Watched it so many times. Your review makes me want to watch it again. love your takes on movies. But more than that, it's the charm and warmhearted, good natured, sweetness of YOU that makes what you do so appealing. You give this 74 year old lady a lift!!! Thank you and love from San Diego, CA.

Love Stanwyck and Brent. They were great together in Baby Face, a remarkable pre-code film I wish you would review.

I would so love to see you talk about Baby Face from 1933, also starring Barbara Stanwyck and George Brent. It's one of my favorite movies!

I love the fact that every great movie has the phrase "Eve Arden is the best friend."

Hi Steve, Another great review of a movie I'd never heard of before. Thanks.

But...you really need to get some tapestries for the room you record in to cut the echo down. Or perhaps there is a technological fix, post recording, that would warm up the sound.
Regardless, All the best in the new year.

I hope you will do a review for New Years Eve as well, I bought The Thin Man DVDs and can't wait to watch them!

It's funny how she said how she refused to wear black but in the next scene, she's wearing black! LOL

I could never understand why George Brent always seemed to be the man that women fell for in the movie plots of the late 30's and 40's.  He is rather stodgy looking, uninteresting, pompous, stuffy and bland.  It seems to me that there were so many more interesting and more handsome men that could have played his parts.

One shouldn't even allude to the Carol of the Bells.

love barbara stanwyck she really could play anything, funny, sexy, sinister, victim, mother truly one of the most versatile actors of her period, i dont think she fully gets the attention or acclaim she deserves .

Your video a great christmas gift. Missed your true calling, however, being a psychologist using film as therapy! Merry Christmas!

What a sweet treat - Stanwyck and Arden in a film together! Two of the best in a (very good) film I never thought of as being a Christmas movie, but it does have a touch of that. And, of course, it's always a sweet treat to see you, too!

I love that you had the same meloncoly / cozy feelings for this film as I have Steve. Interesting that Barbara was in two other Christmas movies around the same time; "Christmas in Connecticut" and "Remember the Night". Most people are familiar with the first but not so the second, I would love to see your review of "Remember the Night" . And can we take a moment to applaud the absolutely gorgeous musical score of "My Reputation"?! Happy Holidays! 🎄☃️
