A reward for work done or tasks isn't a bad thing. If you can afford to pay your child great and also if they don't feel entitled to get a reward which can be monetary or other things then it can work. Just handing your child money for nothing teaches them nothing. Also don't reward bad behavior or let them hold you hostage when it is not deserved. They need to be prepared to live in society and learn how to earn and not feel like the world owes them something.
