Indwelling EMG into Tibialis Posterior

To better understand the effect of foot orthoses on lower extremity muscle activity surface EMG is often used, but for a deep structure such as Tib Post things need to be a bit more invasive. This is my leg being prepped for some data capture by Joanna Reeves at the University of Salford as part of her PhD.

I just did this test and it was not bad at all. I was all psyched out after watching this and reading comments. Told my doctor about it, and he said so many YT videos show older equipment that isn’t even used much anymore. The doctor in this video needled way slow too. Mine was in super fast, and I barely felt it at all. Seriously, if you are getting this done and getting nervous don’t it was so easy, and the shocks actually make you laugh.

I had it done too. There were 2 parts. One was the shock part which it hurt! Then the needle part like the one in this video it hurt bc they moved it around to test my nerve function . It hurt man I cried after it was over bc I didn’t wanna cry infront of them. I recommend you to take medicine before doing this exam.

I thought they kept the "needle" in while the movement was done not put in then out then movement monitored?

I told my doctor that they need to change the acronym to OMG instead of EMG … the procedure had me in tears .. I know everyone is different but it was very painful for me.

im going in today for this test. I didnt know about the needle... omg do i really want to do this? im way nervous now. i HATE needles...

I'm scheduled on the 21rst to get this done on my left leg but am concerned cause on top of previous nerve damage done to it, it also has stroke damage & I won't be able to move my foot back & forth & or up & done cause of the stroke, so not sure how they are gonna be able to tell anything

I've had this test done for my neuropothy, but i also have fibromyalgia. It was fine for yhe most part, but only when i had to move my laeg, don't remember which leg, but it really hurt. But now i have to have it done again to find whoch nerve in my tail bone is affecting my left leg. Im a bit worried. But having fibromyalgia sometimes feels like ive been in a accident. I also have tears on several areas in my hip in the same leg. So i don't know what to expect.

I just had my test a few hours ago. They stuck me with 6 needles. Each needle was in for a few minutes. They kept poking tye muscle and then asking me to push my leg against the doctor's leg. One of the most painful experiences of my life...

My test was excruciating! The way the neurologist was prying the needle in every direction. I asked why wasn't I given anything for sedation. Uggghhhh!

I was having 2nd thoughts about this test. It’s not that bad at all. The worst part was the electric rod they use to test nerves. The little shock last for literally a millisecond. The nurse was quick with it and they use different intensities while doing the test. Honestly I laughed because the jolt from my arm muscle 😂😂😂 and I told the nurse it looked like she was enjoying this too much. It doesn’t hurt, it’s just a little shock.
