This was 2 years ago and he's just singing 2 arias not the entire roles.
These are also middle Verdi operas 1847 & 49, not Otello, Aida or Don Carlo.
Michael seems to be a very intelligent singer and wouldn't do anything to put his instrument in danger.

You are right marvelous Wunderlich!! Verdi has a different intensity than the others...It demands space in the ressonators, higher chest, more pronunce veement, dramatic temperament and intense acting..The energy must sustain these intensities in the top of the frase...To cut it short; demanding choice of repertoire.

The voice of Spyres is becoming darker in this repertoire..I wonder if this path of singing Verdi is going to be good for him...It sounds in the limit of the volume...Such a short arietta in different style can change the color of his gorgeous voice...The market doesn't know about such delicacies...Nowadays, everione who sing should be awear of they on repertoire..

Mr. Spyres possiede una voce potentemente lirica e tendente al drammatico; rilevanti note scure ed acuti sicuri, che gli permettono di spaziare in impervie opere.

Gonfia i centri, proprio nel brano che non va cantato a piena voce . Se continua cosi perderà gli acuti . Gia sul la, la voce si ingolfa. Che ritorni al suo repertorio.

Un cambiamento pazzesco, laringe bassa muscoli del collo tirati petto gonfio ( perché per fare la voce grossa ci vuole fiato) tutto per ingrossare la voce probabilmente per affrontare un altro repertorio....mah!!! Bergonzi’s reputation is secure. I could point out every note that is ‘ingolata’ or displays some other technical flaw, but the basic problem is that he sings entirely from the head up. He’s semi-interesting in weird repertoire, but woefully inadequate in what is standard.
