Excellent advice I’m going back to lifting my left heel because as a senior I need to protect my back and get more distance. I’m starting to get back twinges because modern coaching promoted keeping the feet quiet. Well Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Arnold Palmer all had athletic foot movement and they seemed to do well.

Being 70, you had me chuckling when you said you were "disappointed hitting your 7 iron 190 yards." But I loved your lesson and since I'm straight, but short, I need to use it and try to gain distance. Well done.

Love it I'm 75 and that is just what I'm working on, thank you 😊

Early 40s but could pass for late 30s 😉
Its one thing swinging fuller but then you need to keep it tight and hit the sweet spot. I see plenty of aged golfers with short back swings but still accelerate through the ball with good distance and on the fairways.
Im 53 and often take the easy option of playing up a club to save my lower back. Its worse during slow play when you stand around between shots. I suggest adding daily stretches and warming up properly but very few do haha

Hi Ali, I believe what u are demonstrating. However I also believe that the distances realized are not realistic, simply because U making the swings and consious or unconscious it is adjusted by U.
I would like to see that U invite a senior let's say a 20 hcp and do the improvement excercises.
Believe that would be more realistic for us seniors.
Nevertheless keep up the good work, we oldies need good instructions to work with.
Cheers...harry

I've actually been doing this but at the same time it's so refreshing to see people teaching this versus the old X factor where I thought I was supposed to keep my hips more stationary creating tension.

Thank you for the good video. You do a great job of explaining the various steps and movements that make up the swing you want the golfer to produce.

I am the senior you talk about. Off 6, 64 years soon, but lost those yards. Always strive to keep it in play. The footwork you're doing here is the key for me, the tough part is my back heel coming back up. I need that trail knee touching my front knee after impact. This and your video on the driver for seniors has really helped me. Appreciate your help Ali, cheers

Thanks, I just turned 60 and have to play in a event in May. This is my first training video that makes sense. I'm planning on winning the thing.

I am in my early 70's. These tips are extraordinary to compensate for the movement of the hips. I am still working on consistency for control of the ball direction but you have help me tremendously. Thank you.

As a 58 year old GEEZER golfer, I really appreciate the help Ali. Been in need of a right hip replacement for some time and been using the "dropped back" right foot. Truley helps. Thanks, and great tips as always.

Alastair you have given me plenty to think about. I am 80 years old my left leg was amputated below the knee 43 years ago and surgery on my right knee in 2015 requires me to wear a knee brace. I flair both feet out but I have trouble with balance if I lift my trail heel off the ground on the downswing. I think lifting the lead heel up and planting it down could help me. The advantage of being old I can remember back 50 years ago and remember that great 3-Iron that I hit and that 250-yard shot that I hit on the Par-5 10th hole at Ryde-Parramatta GC in Sydney.

Wish I had this knowledge 15 years ago…I was 38 then, but suffering from bad hip pain…I wound up getting my left hip replaced 10 years ago (I’m righty) and wound up turning my left foot out due to necessity and noticed how much better I could turn through…then, last year, I had my right hip replaced, and you guessed it, was forced to flare out my right toe to take strain off the right hip…the end result…I hit a 7 iron farther now then I did 15 years ago..I mainly use players irons, so not juiced up lofts, although I’m considering changing to get a bit more distance with less effort to preserve the hips…

Good follow through with your right foot ending up on your toe at finish of the swing..A lot of seniors don, t or can, t finish this way.

I will for sure try this next time I’m out on the range! 3 back surgeries have limited my back swing, no speed in the club head at all. Thanks for the tips.

48, had right hip replaced 4 years ago, left handed golfer this sucks, lost a ton of speed. 67 now I have to lift the right heel off the ground now and has helped emensiouly.

I have got to say I enjoy your channel immensely! You make sense of the swing, reduce complexity and make application of your instructions easier to implement than nearly any other instruction channel! Especially for those of us in the “champions” category! Keep up the good work!

Your point about the hips is crucial for distance and accuracy, at least it has for my game. I am better with my long game (driver, fairway and hybrids) than I am with my irons! I still seem to get too steep, quick with the shoulders and chest withe all irons. Pulls and toe strikes are my nemesis!!
