Dr. Mary Barbera discusses how to start teaching games to kids with autism. She’ll also talk about some of the best games for kids with autism that you can start playing with your child or clients today.

Ever tried playing some autism card games with your child or client with autism? Games are an important part to teaching problem solving to kids with autism. Games like autism Hot or Cold, autism Memory Game, as well as some autism board games are great candidates. But if you’re short on autism game ideas, I’m covering some of the top autism games and activities you can start using today with your child or client with autism.

These fun games for kids with autism will help improve problem solving, promote language, and increase social skills. Apart from some games, I’ll also be talking about another BCBA who I recently did a podcast with, Steve Ward. Steve has written books on autism and games and is an expert on teaching games to kids with autism. My hopes are that by the end of this video you’ll have all the resources you need to start engaging in interactive activities for kids with autism.

Turn taking is such an important skill for children to learn; it’s a gateway to having conversations. There’s a Cranium game called Cariboo; an SLP used it with my son. That was a good way to try to teach “my turn, your turn.” He can play Trouble and Sorry with one other player. Lately, just hitting a balloon back and forth is something he likes to do. He might be slowly realizing that playing with another person can be fun.

I notice some red flags on my son like stimming, doesnt respond to his name, and speech delay. Does autistic child initiates playing? My son always hold my hands and instruct me to sit and play with him. We doo peek a boo, hide and seek, horseback riding, piggy back, ride his toy car. Now im really confuse if he is in spectrum or not. He can understand yes or no. He sings a lot, babble words, but doesnt speak. He can imitate sounds and words i say but dont use it. He is a happy 29 months old. He is playful with us (parents & his fave cousin) but not with other children.
