Its pretty rare for foreign Youtubers to venture to local suburbian neighbourhood aka Taman. Yulek is known locally as Taman Cheras currently as its former name is Yulek Heights. And yes many Taman along Cheras radius are pretty hilly which is nice to do a walkabout.
Predominantly made up of larger proportion of Malaysian Chinese so when it comes to food also predominantly Chinese origin eg chinese congee, soup noodle, seafood noodle, bbq meat rice. Many indian moslem shops that serve teh tarik or roti dot the same Yulek too so no shortage in variety. Really depends on what you feel like enjoying at the moment.
It is however not unusual to find many locals who are proficient in more than one languages, making conversation easier even with foreigners. That is Malaysia’s plus point as compared to other Asian country. Even the old folks speaks well enough for a good conversation with you. There are many interesting modern cafes, local classic food available not only in Yulek but also in every Taman you can visit. In fact every Taman has their own comminity morning market or Pasar Pagi.
It is great that you have experienced the market walkabout. Cheers.

Top market that Chai.

So much activity in some areas (mainly food) yet very quiet in the clothing section. Huge variety of products for sale. Great work, cheers mate 🤩

There are many morning markets or food courts in kl. Some desirable, some not so clean, some full of refugees.

1. Pudu icc food court
2. Pudu market
3. Selayang wholesale market (not far from unhcr office). Full of migrants. Mainly rohinyas and bangladeshis.
4. Chow kit market. About to move to new market nearby. Many indonesians there.

Hi. It's a majority Chinese area. Wanton mee usually comes with pork, you don't have to ask them to add it in. And you don't order teh tarik at a Chinese stall 😂😂😂. You find teh tarik mostly at malay, Indian or mamak stalls.

Yulek has some of the best local food in the Cheras area such as the famous yulek wan tan mee and one of the Michelin star seafood restaurant Hai Kah Lang among others.

Wow, Chai, you entered the majority Chinese area of Cheras. If you want to explore more about Cheras, I would recommend you come to the Taman Connaught Night Market, which used to be the longest night market in Malaysia, operating every Wednesday. I'm a student at a uni nearby the night market, and I hope to encounter you there hahaha.😆

Just a tip - Chinese Malaysians are not going to culturally respond to "Selamat Pagi or Terima Kasih". It's somewhat punitive to them (underlying racial biases) - old history of being "forced" to learn Malay sort of. Either a Mandarin/Cantonese greeting or an English "Good Morning & Thank you". And consider speaking English slower - Millenial & Gen X Chinese Msians don't have the exposure boomer Chinese Msians had when the British were still around. = Keep up the great work brother - millenial Msian chinese living abroad.

My opinion is the wan tan mee aunty should not touch the food using her hand (food handling not so professional) after cooking. As it is to serve customers immediately.
