One of the best day trips from Melbourne is Mt. Dandenong in the Dandenong Ranges. This video I list the top things to do at Mt. Dandenong. From the popular family outing of Puffing Billy where I show how to get there, booking and prices. To adrenaline zip lining at Trees Adventure, to the beautiful gardens of Alfred Nicholas Gardens and the botanic gardens to amazing views of Melbourne from SkyHigh Mt Dandenong or from Burkes Lookout. If you are looking for something to do while in Melbourne, there are plenty of great tourist attractions in the Dandenong Ranges. This is the list of the best tourist attractions in Mount Dandenong:

Puffing Billy is an old time steam train where you can take a scenic railway journey in the Dandenong Ranges. A great family activity to do in Melbourne around an hour from the city. In the video I show how to book Puffing Billy, how to get there and costs.

Trees Adventures is an adrenaline thrilled tree top adventure. Filled with zip lines and obstacles that is fun for any age. For something different in Melbourne try this!

The 1000 Steps Kokoda Walk is a wonderful attraction at Mt. Dandenong. Along The Kokoda Trail Memorial Walk you can read some informative information on the World War II campaign in Papau New Guinea by Australian soldiers. The walk is a bit of challenge, so you will need some moderate level of fitness. Bring some water as well!

Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens is one of the most beautiful gardens in the Dandenong’s with its picturesque water features and amazing gardens, particularly in the autumn when it just looks spectacular.

George Tindale Memorial is another beautiful spot on Mt. Dandenong. Its information board shows it as a garden for all seasons. Again it looks lovely in autumn.

Grants Picnic Ground is located in the Sherbrooke Forest and one of the top tourist spots at Mt. Dandenong. Check out the lovely walking trails or feed some of the wild birds here such as cockatoos and rosellas.

Miss Marple’s Tearoom in the town of Sassafras. This is one of the most famous places to have Devonshire tea in the Dandenongs. With lots of memorabilia playing homage to an Agatha Christie character Miss Marple.

Cuckoo Restaurant is probably the most famous of all restaurants on Mt. Dandenong. From its renowned buffet to the live entertainment including yodelling and German music. A great place for the whole family.

Pie in the Sky offers some of the best meat pies you can find in the Dandenongs.

The Dandenong Ranges Botanic Gardens is a wonderful spot to take the family to visit. Beautiful gardens particularly in the autumn. The colours of the trees look amazing.

Another must do gardens in Mt. Dandenong is CloudeHill Gardens. A flawless, well maintained gardens with lovely water features, statues that is full of colour. Great to come in autumn.

Tesselaar Tulip festival in the spring is one of the top tulip farms in Australia. But I visit their KaBloom Festival of flowers in the autumn. A wonderful array of colourful flowers covering a huge area. It looks stunning.

Olinda Falls in the Dandenong Ranges is a petty waterfall to visit.

William Ricketts Sanctuary has 92 clay sculptors of aboriginals. Learn about this artist in a short video inside a cabin.

SkyHigh Mount Dandenong offers some amazing views of Melbourne and Port Philip Bay (weather permitting!).

Burkes Lookout is free and has some fantastic views from Mt. Dandenong as well. It is a little bit harder to find though.

The puffing billy now allows people to sit on the windows again, I went to Melbourne Australia during the winter in 2022 and when I went to puffing billy everyone was sitting on the window sills and we were allowed

Hello! I am confused here but the Trees adventure is located at Belgrave correct and not at Mount Dandenong? Would it take around 3-4 hours to see the Kokoda Trail alone?

Hi Phill.
Living up here in The Hills, I must say;
William Ricketts Sanctuary is a must - natural endemic plantings - no 'formal' location You have bushland here. Come with respect and please don't intrude on other's serenity who maybe there. It is NOT a theme park.
Next: Burkes Lookout... easy walk, go to under the TV and Radio Transmission Towers... which are seen from City and most suburbs of Melbourne proper.
Keep an eye out far ahead on lesser used tracks for snakes. Don't be a moron and try intimidating or catching 'em - Fast Angry Snake = Death.
Pretty obvious... don't try picking up an Echidna.
Watch out for Drop Bears.
** Formal sculptured gardens like a carbon copy of 'English' isn't my thing... but, less chance of Drop Bear attack unless it's a blood thirsty one or their tourist hunting season.

BTW...
