The actor who played Jar Jar almost took his own life due to the constant criticism.
He took a photo of him and his young son standing in the spot, and explained how he had told his son the story in an act of being totally honest and vulnerable to teach his son a powerful lesson.
The photo recently went viral and he is now doing talks on helping people with depression to seek help.

As someone who used to rag on the JarJar character myself, this really made me take a step back and realize our words carry more power than we could ever imagine.

She didn't say anything about Jar Jar. All she said was that she didn't like how Ahmed Best was treated, which I think most people now agree with, even those who absolutely hate the choices that Lucas made for Jar Jar. She intentionally shifted the thought to him instead of the character which says all that needs to be said. She didn't want to say she hated the character but she didn't love it either. Ahmed should have been given better direction not to use that particular voice, had he been told to use a different one, he would have. And I'm sure that the entire character would have been made to fit the voice.
