'How To Install and Play Command and Conquer Generals Evolution Mod on Windows 11'

In this video, I cover how to install and run the C&C Generals Evolution mod on Windows 11 with full working multiplayer.

Generals Evolution is a mod for Red Alert 3 that aims to remake the older Command and Conquer Generals series in the Red Alert 3 engine, this means the game has modern graphics, streamlined gameplay and several quality-of-life tweaks.

Step 1. Install Red Alert 3.

To my knowledge there are two places you can purchase this game, through Steam or the EA App.

Either way, once you have installed the game, launch at least once, set your graphical settings, and then quit.

Step 2. Patch Red Alert 3 To Support 4GB of Memory.

Red Alert 3 is a 32bit application so by default it will only support up to 2GB of RAM, which can cause graphical glitches or crashes once that limit is hit.

Normally this would not be a problem but with mods, this limit can be hit, so the solution is to patch the game’s exe to support up to 4GB of memory.

So, download the archive from the website, extract and then run the tool.

Step 3. Install General Evolution.

Now that Red Alert 3 has been patched the game, we can install the mod.

Simply download the mod from moddb, extract and then run the installer.

If there are any launcher updates, make sure to install them as well.

Step 4. Running Generals Evolution.

Once the mod is installed, if you have purchased Red Alert 3 through the EA App, simply use the GenEvo Launcher desktop shortcut.

Alternatively, if you have installed Red Alert through Steam, this will not work.

So to resolve this, right click on the Properties of the game, navigate to the General tab and in the LAUNCH OPTIONS section type -ui.

Next click Play to launch the game as normal, choose the option for Play Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 and then the option for Game Browser.

Click on the Mods tab, and then Launch Game.

After a short delay, the mod should now work as expected.

Step 5. Enable Online Multiplayer.

So, it is possible to play online multiplayer with this mod if you use the C&C Online servers.

To play online, create an account on the C&C Online website, launch the mod, navigate to Versus, Online, and then sign into using your C&C Online credentials.

From here, you can create or host multiplayer games.

This doesn't work with the latest RA3 patch, and steam will refuse to open a patched executable.
