Thinking of moving to Spain? It’s not for everyone!

You might wanna watch this video before you make your decision, because I’m bringing you the hard facts and reality of relocating to the sunny, Southern European nation!

Spain is perceived by many expats and would-be expats as a sunny paradise with simple living. It can be pretty enticing to think about this country as a potential home. If you come from a country where everything is pricey and you spend little to no time with your family owing to work commitments, the Mediterranean and laid-back lifestyle, world-class Spanish food, and even the traditional siesta look like a dream to you.

But take it from me, today's Spain is far from this dream!

It’ll surprise you to know that it’s undergone major changes. This is not the country you can choose for a laid back lifestyle.
Surprise, surprise: living in Spain is a lot different than vacationing there! It’s a huge reason why a large number of expats end up moving back.

No place is perfect but Spain gets close

Many of your remarks are just dead wrong - Spain has one of the best infrastructures in the world. Judging by your accent, you're an American. The USA for instance can only dream of the road and railway quality that Spain has, not to mention public transit which is pretty much non-existant in much of the US.

I moved here and I love it. No place is perfect.

I’m Swiss and live in the USA since several years. I’m so done with this country! I’m in the middle of organizing a move to Spain. Spain will be paradise, compared to the US. I can’t wait to move back to safer and more civilized Europe again!

Believe me, I have lived in several countries and I travel a lot and I choose Spain, food, climate, the way of living....many many things.

What a bunch of horse crap. I lived in Germany. Come and try bureaucracy, taxes (affecting the so-called high salaries), bad weather, expensive flats, etc etc... I am not from Spain, however, it is a paradise compared to many other places in the world. As one of the persons commented below, my experience there couldn't be more different.

We are moving to Spain from UK next year.. I have an Irish passport, which helps. Im in process of buying a lovely house with large garden and amazing views outright in Almeria. You dont need to rely on electric, or even use gas, solar panels work well. You can be more self sufficient growing fruit and veg, plus year round sun means solar panels work well. Roads are better; less traffic and no angry erratic drivers. Petrol; food; alcohol; rents; property and land so much cheaper. You can be more self sufficient than the UK as here we have no land and not much sun to cope with solar energy. Completion of a house purchase takes roughly 6 weeks and i have an english/spanish solicitor. Yes you pay 7 to 10% on property tax to the government, but still a property works out alot cheaper and is a pretty straightforward process, took me 6 month to sell my house in the UK and has become more complex here in the UK. Many towns have weekly or twice weekly markets where you can sell creative goods, plus we will be renting rooms out; plus always able to so vlogs on youtube. Uk is just over 3 hrs away, so my partner can come back if needed and do lorry driving agency work if money ever gets low. No high council taxs; you pay roughly a few hundred a year for bins and local tax, which is like a council tax, not near the thousands in UK yearly council tax we pay. People are friendly; helpful; more relaxed and spanish is a fairly easy language to learn, with local areas having language classes. More positives, than negatives in my opinion.

Be wary of anyone who has a negative ONLY list. A lot
Of misinformation and plain idiocy. “So if you plan to move to Spain, plan to learn the language.” Uhhh duhhh. This is just formulaic YouTube crap. When there are so many videos of Spains positive lifestyle backed by fact - people start releasing videos to the contrary. Boring. Next!

Spanish person here! We still have siestas, salary is low, but prices are also low, rent is insanely high, so come with a buddy to split that cost

Most of it far from truth. For example: in UK for tiny garden and terraced house we pay £150 council tax. In Spain i have a bit smaler detached house with 1 hectare of land €215 per year! Also noticed lack of skilled workers. Wich means that if hou are skilled worker you will get paid well. Agee with burocracy. Totaly disagree with cuality of the roads. Rods in rural Spain better than UK, motorways same.
The video is made by the person who never lived there or the person who has other reasons wor this kind of video. Every country has its own + and -. And by the way family values much higher in Spain than some european countrys...

I have a property in Spain and somethings mentioned here are true but this isnt a balanced review There are 300 days of sunshine i can tollerate the burocracy for that alone

The comments and voice over seem to come from a script, not from a person that has lived and knows Spain.
I have visited and lived in Spain many times over the last 40 years and my experience couldn't be more different.

The comments here seem more honest than this video.

I lived in Spain for 7 years (Madrid, Granada, Malaga, and traveled extensively within Spain). Unfortunately, I strongly agree with the points made in this video. Having lived in 37 cities across 9 countries around the world, Spain is the only country where I wouldn't want to live again for many reasons. However, as a tourist, Spain is fabulous, and I would always return. I'm just happy not to be a resident anymore and involved in the Spanish system. That said, if you're from a country with more challenges, Spain might still be a good place to live.

Every place has downsides. But complaining about taxes is stupid. You get health-care, schooling, public transportation. I have a small business in nordic country. Of course I have to file taxes and account for vats. That is just normal.

I have no problems with any of this. I am retiring and bringing all my money to spend in Spain. Live for today.

Que video más negativo sobre Por supuesto no es un país perfecto, pero es uno de los mejores y lo que lo hace superior es su gente.

Please people don’t waste your time with this video, it’s clearly Ai generated garbage, you’re better off watching videos of people who are actual humans and talk in detail about their experiences actually living in Spain as foreigners.
