Love the way you handled this and how you don't "dumb" down your gift. I’ve been in services and played the same ccm songs or even gospel songs that have the same progressions . Sometimes adding to the song is what’s best for the moment.

Another note you killed it and people have to understand you’re in a service as the keyboard player you move service along with transitions so if you felt that in that moment that’s what we needed to hear.

Love what you did with that. Criticism can’’ be a goldmine and has been very helpful to my grow. Rather, instruction is even better ‘keep the melody in progressions’ yet what freed me from the box of bondage on my creativity is to allow my mind to reharm on an arrangement, including hymns or standards. Yes do not overlay nor push far when folks are singing. Also know your crowd, older folks etc. great [perspective you have…. Don’t allow one genre, denomination, nationality, nor anything separate you from the vast good and perfect gift of our creator and master architect of giftings. Keep your smile and be openly expressive..you aren’t violating. Remember, the crowds hated our Messiah, scorning him first then to offer him to be crucified ..as well all of his prophets before and many after him, to this day. Only those limited in their own craft and frustrated with understanding could not appreciate the direction you took in the clip. We all will gain what we deserve

I’ve ran into the same issue a few years ago. . There was someone who was a non-US resident said my playing was terrible because I deviated from the original chords.

Part of being a great church musician is understanding that every church has their own sound. What works in one church may not work at the next. And that's okay. Some churches allow for more expression, and some don't want to go beyond the original recording. These are all fine, and these are just opinions. That being said, you can't accurately judge a quick video without understanding the context behind it.
