What is the primary function of the heart?

The heart is a muscular organ that serves to collect deoxygenated blood from all parts of the body, carries it to the lungs to be oxygenated and release carbon dioxide. Then, it transports the oxygenated blood from the lungs and distributes it to all the body parts.

There are four chambers: the left atrium and right atrium (upper chambers), and the left ventricle and right ventricle (lower chambers). The right side of your heart collects blood on its return from the rest of your body. The blood entering the right side of your heart is low in oxygen.
