How To Set Up Dakota Lithium Batteries For Fishing Electronics In Your Boat.

This year I'm running a 100A Dakota Lithium marine battery exclusively for my electronics and sonar in my Ranger. This will allow me to have a dedicated battery to power my fish finder and 360 imaging. By having a dedicated battery wired into your boat ,you'll have cleaner power and a clearer picture.

Capt. Ross Robertson has made his complete living chasing walleye as a full time professional angler for more than 20 years. Through the years he has worn many hats including time as a fishing guide, boat salesman, TV host, outdoor writer, product designer, tournament fisherman, speaker, radio host and podcaster to name a few.
Ross fishes ice-out to ice-up on the Great Lakes. He spends the majority of the year walleye fishing on Lake Erie’s Western and Central basins.

Why does the distribution panel have to be close to the battery? The battery disconnect close to the battery, i understand. Right now my boat is set up with the distribution panel being closest to console unit (on lead acid). I have just purchased a lithium battery to isolate my sonar units. Just doing my research.

Ross, one year later how’s the Dakota battery working out. And is it charged by a onboard charger dedicated to it! Thanks, Ray

What straps/tray did you use to hold it in place?

Thank you
Am I correct your start battery negative is attached to your motor, and your lithium battery negative is not tied to your motor. So they are 2 isolated electrical systems.
Thank you

I got three 12 volt Dakota batteries three months ago. They advertise an 11 year warranty. One of them would not take a charge. The company does not ever answer their phone and they do not respond to emails. That seems to be the case for a lot of reviews on Amazon. So it looks like I'm out three hundred dollars for nothing. I guess that is par for the course these days.

Do the on board charging systems charge the lithium batteries?

I was going to go lithium's but my minn kota instructions say if you use it over 85 percent for long periods of time you can roast the motor.

What are you using as your cranking battery?

Can't really mix Lead Acid/AGM starter and a Lithium house battery without a DC/DC charger / isolator. The two types charge at different voltages.

Why didn't you ground your Dakota battery? You have the black wire going only to the negative post of the battery and this is not a proper way to ground. For Marine electronics proper ground is normally to the engine, you could have a dangerous situation or electrolysis issue. Please clarify.

Nice set up! Takes some time but less problems later.
