“Classic Nanny-Stateism!' Kevin O'Sullivan Slams UK Government's Disposable Vapes Ban

Disposable vapes are set to be banned as part of plans to tackle the rising number of young people taking up the habit, the Government says.

Measures will also be introduced to prevent vapes being marketed at children and to target underage sales.

Figures from the Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) charity suggest 7.6% of 11 to 17-year-olds now vape regularly or occasionally, up from 4.1% in 2020.

The ban is expected to be introduced across the UK, the Government said.

It is already illegal to sell any vape to anyone under 18, but the Government said disposable vapes - often sold in smaller, more colourful packaging than refillable ones - were a "key driver behind the alarming rise in youth vaping".

What a load of nonsense make all vapes only available in registered vape shops problem solved . It is corner shops and euro markets that sell illegal vapes to children not proper vape shops. Also let’s not forget that every person that quits smoking for vaping takes tax coins out the treasury and as for flavours why can I go into a supermarket and buy multiple flavoured vodka, cider, lager etc

I haven't lived in the UK for quite a while. The one thing I noticed when I went back to visit family was how many people still smoke (each to their own) and the amount of rubbish everywhere. The place looked like a tip. Alot of the rubbish seemed to be disposable vapes. Maybe getting rid of the disposable ones will improve the place.

Flavoured vapes are a great alternative and safer alterbative to smoking cigarettes . The whole point is getting away with the taste and its cleaner . Out of touch rishi thinks adults dont like flavours the absolute plank

Teens vaping is by far healthier than smoking. Not a fan of disposables but they have their place. Instead of banning them they should only be sold in vape shops, not corner shops and supermarkets.

Libertarianism is not synonymous with Conservativism. There are obviously examples of governments acting like a "nanny state", although when it comes to actions which are having a detrimental impact on society, such as vaping, the government has a duty to introduce legislation to prevent the dangerous consequences. Legislation of this sort does not infringe upon the rights of an individual, but rather prevent the sale of these "vapes". The individual being dependent on such things may actually reduce his freedom.

Disposable vapes should be banned. Like all vape cigarettes they contain a Lithium Ion battery and Lithium is poisonous. They should not be considered disposable in the same way a cigarette butt is.
