There are some great hospitals in Bangkok. Bumrungrad in the Nana area of Bangkok is one of the best in SE Asia. I'll explain what I've learned in the past few years. Using my US insurance in Bangkok comes with a learning curve.

On my channel banner above you'll find the current links to my favorite travel credit cards. I try to keep them updated, but please leave me a comment if you need a current link.

Hi Joe...on my recent trip to Hua Hin I visited the public hospital for just some basic blood work. The nurse told me a complete physical " package" would be more cost advantageous. I received the basic screening plus EKG, chest x-ray, complete blood work panels (CBC, lipid panel, liver panel, PSA & A1C) eye exam and hearing test. When I returned the next day for my results the nurse insisted I see the DR to go over my tests. Spent 30 minutes with him going over every test. I paid cash for the package and the charge on my CC, after exchange conversion, was $115.00 USD. BTW, my Medicare disadvantage plan will not cover a second PSA test in a 12 month period and that test alone would be close to $100 in US.

Yes i like how you don't need to see a general practitioner first. I had kidney stones and was sent directly to urologist and was in for procedure to remove next day. Great hospital, they saved my life

Thank you again for the information about GeoBlue. I didn’t know I have Geo Blue when I retire 6 years ago until I watch your channel. Called my state employer and they confirmed same, it also covers my wife. We will try to use it when in Phnom Penh or other Southeast countries👍🏾

Bumrungrad International Hospital is a fantastic hospital. I had major cervical spine surgery there in 2013 and as I approach retirement (Federal/FAA), I am looking a locations in which to retire and Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam are contenders. Bumrungrad is a big part of the equation. My wife and I hope to visit Thailand later this year. Thanks for the great information and I pray that you will feel better soon.

I was there about 10 days ago, it is a good hospital, very efficient, it is in the Arab quarter of Bangkok based on the businesses surrounding it, got a shot there for 3K baht, then went to a clinic in Pattaya for the same shot and paid 1K. Just paid cash but have insurance.

I've grown to routinely enjoy your channel over the last year.
Like you, I'm drawn to Bangkok, but I'm also wary of the potentially unhealthy environment.
I hope everything is OK. Please keep us updated.

My strategy with medical insurance bills is to ignore whatever comes in the mail unless it is completely outrageous and pay when they finally send a collection notice. It's worked for a couple of decades now ;-)

Hi Joe, was in Pattaya last April and got treated for bronchitis at a government hospital I believe. Best care I've ever recieved no matter where I've been. From California so I'm well versed in Kaiser. Will be at Bumrungrad at the end of this month so hopefully will have a chance to say hello in person. Your channel has been a big help I'm sure to many of us.

Joe, I did an annual "executive checkup" for male at my age bracket at Bangkok Hospital last April. I was reimbursed 100%. I did prepay, saved my receipts, and filed a claim. MY US insurance becomes GeoBlue overseas. I also double checked that Bangkok Hospital is "in-network." So your mileage may vary.

Got sick a few times from drinking fruit juice on the street and ice that was in a drink that i suspected was tap water. Caught a taxi to the Hospital and was seen to in 15 minutes for a small fee.
What a great service and the Hospital was 1st class AAA+.
I got told by a Kiwi engineer to dont drink the ice, , , i forgot.

BCBS is really good insurance. Wife is retired USPS. We're keeping it. Both of us in our late sixties.

There are many excellent hospitals in Thailand. This one is very famous for the Western and Japanese.

I am not a health practitioner, but my guess your sore throat will have something to do with the air quality index (PM 2.5) that has been off the charts for the last week in Bangkok. Get well mate, see you soon.

I mentioned before get a air purifier for your apartment. It will make a world of difference in a city with high pollution.

Thank you for another informative video. I'm retiring in May 2025 and working on obtaining an OA Retirement Visa, will i still be required to do the 90 days check in? Bernadette

Thanks for the specifics, Joe. I think I will have the same BCBS GeoBlue benefits when I retire in a few months. On a different item, I asked once about your visa, and I think you said you are on a 10-yr LTR visa, right? Did you apply for it while still in the US, or wait until you were in Thailand? Thank you again!
