The NEW Garmin Edge 540 and 840

A big and long awaited update from Garmin on their Edge 540 and 840 bike computers... Did they get it right and was it worth the wait? We got our hands on the new Garmin Edge 540, 540 Solar, 840, and 840 Solar bike computers and here are some of our early thoughts!

I am using Wahoo Element Bolt2 but I ordered Garmin Edge 840 Solar. I can't wait to get it on hand

I’m using the Wahoo Bolt V2, it’s great but annoying that Garmin and Wahoo can’t upload rides to each other. If I use my Garmin 955 watch for example, Garmin connect does not upload to the Wahoo Element app and vice versa. When using the Wahoo bolt and Strava then Strava as will pass it over to Garmin Connect….

Just used my 840 today on a 16+ mile ride. I have to say the speed of pairing and control is impressive Climb pro didn't come on but my Karoo did. Maybe I need to go into the setting. It's speedy and great. Lot of stats. Connects to dI2, Rally Power, Polar HRM, Radar 515 and light and Garmin speed. Super duper. Love the integration with Garmin Connect and Strava and MyFitnessPal. Thanks.
For Climb Pro...
You have to go into settings and Select Climbs and ensure Climb Pro is selected. Also "Climb Detection" should be set to All Climbs (unless you only want Medium to Large Climbs. And "Mode" set to Always (or when Navigating, I guess that's on a course. I set mine to Always.

In the absence of seeing any demo units yet, I'm looking for clues on just how much screen brightness is sacrificed on the solar models. I know there's some loss, but until I know how significant it is, I'm not comfortable deciding on solar vs. non. Any insights❓

How Can I push gpx file from phone to garmin edge without internet connection? Anybody knows?

The Climbpro thing is really irritating. You climb on HR and power, maybe cadence, Climbpro screen comes up and masks all that data to give you a silly little picture which is meaningless in terms of effort management. And you need to push buttons to get rid of it. Then stupid little "hi 5" tunes when you get to the top. So California.
