Forget about Rafale, India making a decision on any acquisition on time will be a massive achievement in itself.

Means at the end of the day, Indian air force will get Tejas mk1a fighters in current decade and Tejas mk2 fighters by decade end. What I think is, airforce needs to consider TEDBF program's airforce version. It's better when compared to current Rafael.

Who is responsible for this situation? Government as well as Airforce too, they don't have clarity what they want, actually they want a 7 th gen fighter in 10 million dollar.

Who is responsible for this situation today? Modi government, UPA government and or IAF? I feel both. IAF responsible for not considering Tejas seriously. IAF like foreign and finished products. Manohar Parrikar did good job and gave momentum for Tejas. Modi government I feel responsible for ordering the Rafael off the shelf where as previous government decided to have combination of off shelf and local production. UPA government is responsible as they took a very long to decide who wins. Lack of planning and vision, lack of potential risk in the projects, lack Co ordination between various agencies and Defense ministry is hampering our defense procurements. Our late DDefense Minister Manohar Parrikar was doing the good job but unfortunately he passed away.

" delay " is the in born decease of our country and we can’ t get rid of it ever. we suffer side effects of this decease e.g. rise in cost, outdated material etc. everytime but seem to learn anything from the past mistakes.

France has always placed orders for fighters as place holders for future foreign customers. The 50 units for Army of the Air can be configured for foreign customers with a couple years lead time.

If we take South Korea / Turkey type approach i.e. start production & modify / improve in subsequent batches & start producing TEDBF with CURRENT version of Kaveri ( having same thrust as M88) - & do it as if we are in a war : we can get them ready much faster than any other foreign aircraft except MiG-35..
Or we may also integrate RD-33 in TEDBF.

It's always better to have a local assembly line... In case of future orders or war

There is no option other than developing Tejas and AMCA.

Develop own engine. Urgently. URGENTLY.
