Here is something cool guys, this old 1980s Yamaha G1 golf cart has a 2 stroke engine, and NO reverse gear! To accomplish reverse the engine itself actually runs in reverse! Check it out, ingenious!

Mercury outboards used to have a direct reverse also . They called they “dock busters “. lol. This is a G1 . Serial number is on the right or left frame behind the wheel well. 🙋‍♂️👍🖖🏻

I'd love to see the video on how the clutches work. I think mine needs rebuilt for replaced.

I have this same cart and was trying to figure out the model. G1 or maybe g2 I suspect. I need an ignition coil/plug wire module

I am in the market for a golf cart to get around mountain property. The seller states it's a Yamaha G1 Golf Cart - Gas - 2 stroke. They have had it for many years and have upgraded to electric. He wants $2k for it. It "appears" to be well taken care of from a photo. I have not seen it in person, yet. My main use would be to pull two bins (garbage, recycle) down a long (equivalent to 2 suburban blocks) Paved driveway and carry my tools around

My questions for anyone familiar with the Yamaha G1 model are:

1. How fast do these carts go?
2. Does the cart have power to go up an elevated driveway?
3. Is $2000.00 what these older carts on the market for these days?

Thank you in advanced. Angel from The Bay

Strange, I have two of these. One has a boost chambers common for some two strokes yet my other one doesn't have a boost chamber or the hookups for one in the block and the mount for the carb. Next thing I've got going for these carts is a governor adjustment although I think one of them, the engine is just about shot. It barely climbed a hill with two people.

We have one identical to this and we're trying to figure out why it won't run.... we have power. But can't get the electric motor to take off

Its a starter generator, no such thing as a starter alternator to my knowledge. These are good carts, I have one. My exhaust isn't plugged but it is filled up with oil or carbon, it smokes like an SOB when the exhaust gets hot. I can golf 9 holes with no problem (lots of stopping and starting) but if I drive the cart down the road for more than a half mile it starts to smoke really bad. I've heard some people put the whole muffler into a camp fire and let the oil burn out of it (google yamaha g1 muffler bbq) but I think these mufflers have fibreglass baffles in them so I wouldn't recommend it. I think this summer I am going to remove the muffler and try to rinse out the insides with kerosene or even gasoline and see if that helps. I have heard that some people pressure wash 2 stroke dirt bike pipes out. If all else fails I'll have to slice it open and clean it out manually and weld it back together.

I’m trying to wire up my starter/generator just like this one do you happen to have a diagram of how the cables where ran from the starter/generator to the the things on the fender?

How do they adjust the spark advance on the ignition ?

The crankshaft seals may also be the issue, not the muffler.

I’ve been looking for a video of people doing mods to this golf cart with the stock 2 stroke cause I’m looking to do something with mine but everybody just puts a different motor in it

Where did you find a muffler replacement?

I remember cleaning out 2 stroke exhausts by using a blowtorch up the tailpipe to burn out the carbon. That might work with that exhaust as well

I’ve got the same cart… but I’ve got a electrical problem…. The battery blew up and now I have no spark… I’m assuming it is the voltage regulator… any help would be greatly appreciated…
