Put it on the scrubby side, it soaks in. Sponge side just sits on top, unless I guess if you're using cheap watery soap

The wrong way is to use a sponge that is just going to end up in a landfill. There are compostable sponges. Please consider using those instead.

Totally depends on the type of surface you’re cleaning. You can totally ruin a delicate surface scrubbing the shit out of it with the scratchy side.
