The Baptism Site of Jesus Christ at the Jordan River

Показать описание
A Sacred Christian place in the Holy Land, Al-Maghtas in Arabic, the Baptism Site "Bethany beyond the Jordan" is about four hours travel from Aqaba City where I was accommodated, the southernmost part of Jordan near the Saudi border. It is much nearer coming from the Capital City of Amman, it might take one and half hours or less. It is also located few kilometers north of the Dead Sea in the Jordan Valley.
Being in the place where our Lord Jesus Christ was baptized by St. John the Baptist is like bringing us back in time, while walking through the trail going to the site, i can just imagine that the Lord used to walked on the same area.
But sad to say, seeing the river condition today may dismay many people, especially Christians who would love to see this place well preserved. It is quickly drying out, in 2016 my first visit, water in the original baptism site was still coming out. In 2018 and 2019, water was diminished or gone already (not sure, might be low tide that caused for water to disappear when we were there). I just hope the government on both sides of the river will do something to restore the flow of the Jordan river with crystal clear water...considering a dredging project will help.
At any rate, Baptismal ceremonies are still being held in the main stream of the river just opposite of the St. John the Baptist Church.
At the west bank just across the river, baptism ceremonies are also being held by Christians in the Palestine.
