I see the suggestion already, but I'll reiterate it here. I sharpened industrial bandsaw blades as a career for 20 years. When they are welded, you have to go back with a torch and heat it until it glows ever so slightly in a darkened room. This anneals the steel, softening it. But you shouldn't have to do that with a new blade. It should be done in the factory.

The weld is not bring annealed properly after the welding.

As somebody who works in the construction industry. This is happening across the board. Materials and tools I've been using for the better part of a decade have taken a noticeable dip in quality since the pandemic.

The heat temper after welding is making the weld brittle. Definitely a manufacturing issue, weld procedure is wrong!

Many years I worked as a machinist. We welded our own bandsaw blades.
1st step was to induction weld the ends together. This left the weld zone very brittle.
2nd step was to heat the weld zone to a dull red to temper the metal removing some of the brittleness and adding flexibility.
3rd step was grinding the weld flat.
Them blades are made wrong.

As someone who welds all bandsaw blades at work, multiple things can go wrong. The obvious one is that all bands aren't created equal. some are more flexible than others. When it comes to welding, at least the way we do it, you can mess up in several ways. You need to make sure the ends are perfectly angled when cut so the entire width of the band is touching. You need to make sure the band is completely clean before welding, you need to make sure to perfectly align them in the welder so that the band doesn't connect at an angle and isn't constantly being ripped apart from one end of the weld by the saw. Lastly, if the welder messes up the tempering post welding, it will barely pass a bend test.

They did not normalize the steel after welding it allowing high concentrations of Carbon around the weld, making it brittle.

Heat the weld to cherry red .back the heat away slowly. Let it cool slowly. Do not put it in water to cool. This will anneal it.

I'm a welder, yes it's a manufacturing error, without proper heat treatment weld HAZs become extremely brittle in high alloys like that.

The easy solution is annealing. Use a torch to get the heat affected zone glowing a little, then bury the hot bit in lime, or a fine powder to let it cool extremely slowly. This relaxes the crystal matrix formed by the weld. They should have done this in factory.

Best of luck Blue

As a certified welder my opinion is, redheads are beautiful ❤️❤️❤️

Lots of really good comments, We also had this problem happening. Swapped the cheap Chinese blades for Blades made in the UK, yes they were more expensive but lasted 30 times longer.

Getting this many responses to a broken bandsaw blade is definitely an unusual superpower! Prettiest sawyer I ever saw too!

I have noticed the almost everything you buy nowadays has much lower quality standards then 5-10 years ago.

The root cause is the operator is too hot.

I had this exact thing happen to me repeatedly. My solution was to de-tension the blade when NOT in use, They stopped breaking

Its not just you. If youre in woodmizer Facebook groups there are multiple people a day saying they are having blade breakages. Woodmizer needs to address the issue.

If the weld is breaking it, s a manufacturing fault..I use cooks blades and if a weld breaks they want me to cut six inch sections off each side of the weld and send it to them.i get a free blade in return.
When your saw is out of a cut do you idea the motor down while you reset the saw for another cut?? I found if the blade is moving when it, s not in a log cutting they break alot.i lost several blades that way till I figured out what was happening.

To fix the issue, get a torch and heat the meat of the blade on the weld area and let it cool, it will stabilize the metal and make it less brittle.
