The original movie was done in the 70's after the director wrote the book Roots. Its about the directors family history and of his first ancestor Kunte Kinte and how he was kidnapped from his tribe in Africa and was shipped over seas to be sold into slavery. We watched the movie in middle school and it was the most atrocious but beautifully written movie ive ever seen. This however is the series that goes into more depth about it.
