I believe $2000 is not enough for an emergency fund nowadays. $3000-$4000 is more appropriate.

It is not the one time spending on coffee and guacamole it is the spending on coffee and guacamole every time you go out. If you have 20 coffees and guacamoles on each Credit card statement you are living over your means unless you pay off your card each month. It does add up.

I'd say these days, $5k is the minimum for savings. that'll cover for just about any repair, up to even a new transmission.

Please check online about interest rates being paid by banks on savings accounts. You'll be pleasantly surprised. It's way, way, a lot more then 0.1%
