Anyone remember when literally EVERYONE had a Draw My Life video on their channel? You were guaranteed at least a million views if you did one

This era was an absolute classic and even if it was awful, I miss the YouTube that was actually a goodish and didn’t make everything for kids and went crazy with rules

the parody era was crazy bc looking back they were so bad lmao also i don't know if anyone else remembers but bart baker always made taylor swift parodies where she was the devil and when taylor came out with blank space where she acts crazy, everyone and i mean EVERYONE thought she was shading bart baker in some way 💀💀

I think another big difference is the role skits play. Now, if they are used at all, it's a garnish to the rest of the video. In older eras of YouTube, they *were* the video. People would just write a sketch, film it, and upload it to YouTube.

i love that long-form content has become a major thing on youtube and has allowed for lots of creativity and more interesting content but i sometimes miss the short, sub-ten minute simple videos that were popular in the early 2010s

DRAW MY LIFE. Omg. I think it was always people who constantly moved around schools in their childhood and magically found a weird site called YouTube, and looked up to Ryan Higa, Smosh, or the Vlog Brothers.

This era showed me stuff at 12 years old that I never should have seen lmao

If there's one thing to be thankful for on modern-day youtube is that the finebros don't have a chokehold on us anymore like they did 10 years ago

I mean, your filming style is quintessential 2010 YouTube

In all seriousness though, Emily's got some wicked acting chops. You forget it's one person playing two characters
Also that transition at 7:55 is AMAZING

Man storytime videos were so popular that when I was in Middle School (worst time of my life because I was severely depressed and getting heavily bullied) every single time I had a bad day or something crazy would happen I would just sigh to myself and be like "it's okay this is gonna make a great story time one day"

2010s Youtube was a wild time honestly. Can't say I super miss it but it did have it's charms

thank you emily for keeping alive the one 2010s trend everyone misses: skits!

Also during 2014-17, all the sudden those Youtubers start to showed off their house or apartment. Like, how well-kept, well decorated, or how cozy their places are.

i was raised in 2010's youtube, i now realize that maybe dropping ice and eating cinnamon whole may not be a good idea

I feel like an old man saying this but sometimes I miss those days where people would just be able to Let's Play with a number of the part. I know they still exist but it seems like they got a lot shorter and centered around a scene because people's attention span decreased.

There was like a whole pilgrimage of creators to LA between 2010-2012 and I swear they were always in each others videos. It was like this microcosm of the most popular people back then. iJustine, OlgaKay, freddiew, Corridor Digital, Jacksfilms, Shane Dawson, Tobuscus, Grace Helbig, Cyr, Smosh, Epic Meal Time, Jenna Marbles, the list goes on.

Another thing that was big during that era (which a lot of the creators above participated in) was sketch comedy. It had such a big community on YouTube and wasn't just a fun thing to do at the beginning of a video.

My favorite is YouTubers who do skits where they have duplicates of themselves and they talk to themselves. Jacksepticeye did a few really good ones, Anna Akana, and Julie Nolke make pretty good ones. Oh yeah, another one is Not Even Emily. Definitely my favorites so far.
