When I was a kid my grandfather got us a German Shepard/wolf mix from Canada. His name was Smokey and he loved us kids beyond words. He would go under our bedroom window and howl until we came out to play. Super intelligent dog, he would never let a stranger near us. He was our babysitter, made sure we stayed away from the road or dangerous bulls.

My last GSD was a special girl, I had back surgery right before we got her and she took full advantage during her puppy time. When she matured she knew when I was hurting and wouldn't ask for extra walks ( usually my daughter took her ) or rough play and would cuddle up with me. My wife had a no dog on the bed rule which I totally ignored and it wasn't long before our furry girl made my wife forget about that rule.
I ended up having to sleep on the couch for back support. She would spend a little time sleeping on the bed with my wife or upstairs with my daughter but 99 out of 100 times if I reached down to the floor at night she was right there next to me. Miss her a lot!

100% true! Two shepherds in 30 years. Burned up 3 vacuum cleaners and countless pairs of walking shoes! If raised right best dog ever! RIP Heidi/Maggie. Good job my dear! ❤️

Man, I'm so jealous of you. The responsibility and effort you put into keeping those two GSD healthy and beautiful is just awesome! I have an akita-shepherd mix. I try to give it everything he needs, and a lot of time prioritize his needs over most of my own, so I sometimes don't go out with my friends in order to stay and feed my dog at a proper time. But still, I simply can't provide him with this level of food quality and excercise. I do give him as high quality food as I can pay for, and give him plenty of excercise. But you are just the gold standard!

I loved my baby girl. She lived to over 13 years old. She was a rescue. Absolutely gorgeous sable. Lots of magical fibers of joy and love all over the house. I miss her terribly. ❤️

I love German Shepherds! I have a six-year-old male and I love him like a child. When I first got him I had no idea what I was getting into. A video like this would’ve been very helpful at the time.

I had a male German Shepherd that I found roaming aimlessly on a very busy 6 lane street in my city. I got him off that road and adopted him. I tried to find his owner but he was not microchipped, nor could I find any missing notices of him from the pound. A few days prior we had Hurricane Matthew in NC and we had massive flooding. I am convinced he got displaced in the flooding and floated into town from the outside county area as he had no tag. But he was perfectly house trained and very obediant. I loved that dog. Sadly he developed a tumor and declined rapidly. I had to put him down in the end in 2019 after having him 3 years. Miss you Dingo.

My mostly German shepherd mix dog takes on most of these characteristics. Very demanding of pets, sleeps on his back during deep sleep, double taps my thigh to let me know he wants me to chase him, learns quickly, stubborn, he also does excited nips (softly grazes across my hand) when we get home, he sheds all year long. He only speaks on command, when I pretend to eat his food, while dreaming, when he wants me to hurry up to take him on walks, when he's on high alert, and when he needs to be let out to use the restroom. Lastly, we both do a 5 second stare down before he expects me to chase him immediately after the stare down; I'm always happy to oblige! He's spoiled and I'm his human. He has it out for squirrels and I love him with all my heart.

Way back when I was growing up my dad had two two dogs named Zack and Shadow and they were awesome, I thought I was the coolest kid in the neighborhood for having two German Shepherds by my side, I still miss both of my Buddies.
