Why all this grade school nonsense.

Yes hydrogen is lighter than jet fuel, in theory. Its 2.5 times more energy dense. But that is to weight, not volume.

Energy density to volume is 5 to 10 times less depending on if its chilled or compressed gas.

Of cause then you might think that Chilled is superior with half the volume.. Well in theory yes. In practical reality the insulation need to be pretty thick, this eats up most of the benefit. So what about compressed: Well compressed gas have to be stored in flask, also eating up space.

But chilled gas also need flasks. Hydrogen is the only chilled gas that need to be stored in flasks. Making both options equally bad.

Also the flask don´t have zero weight. You might think how heavy can a carbon fiber flask be? Well in Toyota hydrogen fullcell car it have two flask that carry a total of 10kg of hydrogen, the flask are 90kg empty weight.

So the 2.5 times advantage fell to a 4 time disadvantage . And the 5 time disadvantage in volume turn to a 15 times disadvantage in volume.

What the claim that hydrogen only produce water and heat when burn. Not true. it also produce HO (that is highly acitic and toxic) and NOx that is bad for breathing. What it don´t produce is SOx, but.. that also don´t synthetic fuel produce. It also don´t produce CO, but modern engines hardly produce those anyway.

That really leaves us with CO2.. and... well here is yet a other elementary school knowledge gap. Circulating CO2 don´t matter.
