The scam is that rather than mark them down 50%, they enticed you to move more inventory

The perfect example of Consumer Mentality vs. Business Mentality.

My last two brain cells trying to see if the black Friday sales are a scammer or not

To me BOGO is always "I got 2 pairs half off, which is still a win!"
*Edit to people still arguing, did your teachers ever teach you k.i.s.s? keep it simple. I usually play $20 since last expensive pair got stolen from work. I learned from my mistake, so if someone does it again or they wear down, I get a backup if it's BOGO. Shoes are to get you to point A to B, who cares if there's a ploy from the company to sell you it, that's what they do. Long as it's reasonable price and actually fits good I'm not complaining.

BOGO actually works better than 50% too, because not only did they move more inventory, but you always pay for the more expensive one. So if one was $80 and one was $70. At 50% off for both shoes that’s a total of $75. But with BOGO you make $80.

The fact that he still couldn't convince me that those shoes were NOT free shows why I'm forever broke.

As a former retail manager i can tell you they either 1. Upped the price to still make more money. 2. Got rid of stock that doesnt sell and break even on bad stock and 3. Gave you the impression that the store gives you good deals so you come again in the future

As someone that worked in retail I can confirm that Jack is absolutely right again.

"50% off, but only if you buy 2"

It’s more accurately “2 for the price of 1”… if you were not going to pay $80 for 1 pair of shoes then, to Jack’s point, the advertising worked… and the store definitely didn’t lose money! 😂

Bogof basically means pay for 2 pairs of shoes with a 50% discount on both pairs!

Yall complement each other so well thanks again for all the smiles 🫶

Manufacturing price was likely about $35-40 for the $80 boots as retail bumps up the price. The 2nd pair were likely cheaper. So they still made money and got rid of overstock to introduce new product

Can confirm. They increase prices slowly a month or two before, and then you get a "Buy one, get one free!!" or "Sale: 50% off everything!!" but they had doubled the price than what it would be if you bought them 3 months ago. Especially at Christmas and Winter "Sales".

Source: Brother worked at Tesco and tell us Sales are scams.

I agree, not free, she just had a 50% discount on both 😂

It’s actually more important for the store to get rid of the old inventory than having a big margin on every single shoe sold, because the inventory of the new season probably was about to come in. And once the new inventory comes in, they would destroy the leftovers from the old inventory
