The Lenovo Legion Y740 is a pretty compact 15" RTX gaming notebook but its also pretty affordable considering it has an RTX 2070 Max-Q and i7 CPU. Not only that but with the 9th Gen Intel processors coming out soon, the sale prices are making the Y740 even less expensive. But with high performance in our benchmarks are there any sacrifices like battery life, temperatures or noise?

You can always set it to “balanced” mode so the CPU clocks down guys.

Many manufacturers factory set their laptop to performance mode. Very old school way of thinking and it’s not necessary as long as the system is configured correctly.

The y740 is definitely a sweet gaming laptop for the money 🤛

I very much appreciate the disclosure statement right in and at the beginning instead of hidden in details or somewhere else others might attempt. This imo is an example those others should follow, it's a customer relations type thing similar to, "Thank you, " and "You're welcome.". the speaker are great, it s dolby if im not mistaken, this laptop is for gamers/student which can carry around not for content creators, the reason i said student as well cz of the optimus mode that pushes the battery life for 4 hours + can help it to stay up in classes sessions and u can game on in free times while plugged on, that s what i usually do and that s what this laptop is meant for and i am happy with this system, it s much more better than what he describes

Got a Legion Y530 wich is not as fancy as this but like it really much so far!

Edit: Little over 3 weeks with the Laptop now and have to say Im really happy with the Y530

Love the looks and feel of it. While it is mostly plastic I never think about it as it have a very sturdy feel to it.

I love the Screen it has, great for gaming and while its not as good at movies as my 4k TV I find myself loving to use it even when I could use my TV.

When it comes to Gaming I got more then I thought. THAT said I added 8GB RAM so I have 16GB in total. This proved to be a great investment as I se a big boost in preformance on all lvls.

I was afraid the 1060 6GB would let me down but I was wrong. For the money It really do well in Full HD.

In most games I have played I can clearly see that having 16GB vs 8GB RAM really made a diffrence. BF5 was one of the games I saw the biggest improvment as the FPS got higher and much more stable. Also AC Origins improved a lot.

Games I have tried:

Overwatch High/ultra= 95 solid FPS. Lover a few stuff and I would se around 115 but dont feel the need.

DayZ High+ultra textures: 80fps in a active city wich is not bad at all for this kind of game.

BF5 High/Highest gives me around 70fps when I twek it myself. The extra 8GB really helped.

AC Origins Highest/Ultra. Not got a chance to see the FPS but From what I see and feel it runs really good. Dont se any big drops and if I had to guess It feels like close to 60Fps and very stable.

Vermentide 2 High gives me stable 60 fps with no drops below.

LOL is maxed and have it locked at 120FPS. Tried 144 but saw that it jumped randomly down to 130FPS so skipped that.

Imperator Rome runs at Max with 144 FPS at SP, will try MP one Day.

Civ6 runs really nice at Highest/Ultra at a stable 100 FPS

Next big game I want to try is Three Kingdoms. From what I have seen I think I can expect 60Fps at High settings.

thank you for your review! im currently browsing around for a new laptop and dont know where to start! been running apple for so many years but now I dont see the value in their product when its been minor upgrades and changes but pricing keeps getting higher for fancier sounding names.

I had the Y720, just got the Y740 RTX2070 and omg! I'm blown at how much they made it lighter, the RGB keyboard is actually RGB and not some cheap plastic under light...This laptop is beautiful

y740 15 inch with i7-9750h and RTX 2080 max q user here. 8:06 After almost two years' usage, the fact that CPU is running at max clock speed all the time is causing issues right now. Idle temp is always 60+C, causing the fans to ramp up much more frequently than other laptops, which also degredates thermal paste faster than it should be. I'm gonna wait for you review of razer blade 14 and decide whether I should get that one instead.
