When I was growing up, 1970´s, 80´s, we called it Desperate Hot Springs. I had a lot of friends from there, but they definitely weren´t the wealthiest people in the Coachella Valley. I have no idea what it is like now.

I’m staying here in an air bnb while going through a break up and the cons are being asked for change 5x every time you go out and the obvious meth problem. The heat is insane, the air quality has my throat hurting, everyone seems to have an attitude. It’s honestly one of the most depressing places I’ve ever been but I needed somewhere to stay in a pinch. (Good apartments are scarce where I’m from right now)

Grew up here and recently moved back. my van was stolen and my tools stolen. shootings at parks the news doesn't report on. before moving out of the city my place has been broken into 4 times throughout the years and mutiple attempts. Ive ived in a 400, 000 dollar home. we had security systems etc. doesnt help

I was raised here and I would avoid it at all costs. There's too much crime, very windy, and boring. Not to mention the amount of homeless and junkies on the streets.

Desert Hot Springs is nestled near Palm Springs (other great desert cities) Joshua Tree National Park, Salton Sea, Mission Creek Preserve, Pioneer Town and many amazing desert and mountain parks. I find gas to be cheaper in DHS than the Los Angeles are, Spas, and we have plenty, often offer inexpensive day passes so staying cool with natural springs waters is easy. The city council has made great improvements to attract more home buyers and business to our town. Cannabis is a growing industry here, we welcome the cultivation and retail business of 420 with spas and resorts offering outdoor consumption. We have theater, The McCallum and other small venues with great production companies, bus and truck productions, many casinos near by offer top of the line concerts and a new sports arena is being built to house a hockey team of all things. Keep your eyes open as Mayor Scott Matas and council are doing amazing things to insure the continued growth of our little town.

I've been through Desert Hot Springs many times. You forgot to mention the bars on every business window downtown. Also, the highest crime rate in the whole valley. After the first trip through town I chalked it off my list. Subsequent trips though the place confirmed my first impression. Wouldn't even consider this a safe place to live. No wonder the housing prices are the lowest around.

Cons: Extremely windy and high crime (compared to the rest of the valley).

Yea no. Living in DHS is ghetto as heck car thefts occur all the time terrible traffic lights are always out. Worst location cus of the sand constantly blowing. Rancho Mirage, Old town LQ or even Palm Desert is way better choice. Only good thing is the rents cheap due to the area

What about getting in and out of DHS? Are the roads good going towards Yucca Valley and PS?

Desert Hot Springs gets a bad rap. This area is 😍 beautiful all year around with surrounding mtn views. Drive out 20 min. and you then have landed in Palm Springs to Shop, have lunch and walk thru downtown, while enjoying entertainment Thursday Evenings which is seasonal. Excellent place to Retire.
