Up until this, takumi has only ever driven RWD cars, his 86, iketanis s13, and itsukis 85. While they all have different amounts of power, and different advantages (yes even the 85 has an advantage) they were all RWD which made the act of drifting them essentially the same thing each time. So takumi learning how to use an AWD system will not only help him drive his 86 better, but will also give him a more insightful perspective of how his 86 puts him at a huge disadvantage in terms of power and maneuverability

In the Japanese dub, Takumi mentions that the feeling of driving the WRX compared to the 86 is cruel. I kinda get what he means. All the work, effort and skill to drive the 86 fast, he doesn't need to do that when driving the WRX since it does it all already showcasing the difference between the 2 cars. I experienced this when I'd switch from my 240SX to my brother's 2.2 Impreza coupe. Despite the Impreza being auto, it still retained its AWD capabilities and cornered much more effortlessly compared to my S13.
