🎥 More about this video:
Hello, hello! Today, we’re doing one of my favorite things on this channel: A deinfluencing hit list! Just like I did back in December with my Deinfluencing Holiday Hauls & Deinfluencing the Internet’s Viral Products of 2023 (both linked below), I’ve rounded up viral summer products from the internet and will be deinfluencing them one by one. Aka, let’s talk about why we really don’t need to buy these products, even if the impulsive part of our brains want them badly.

Let me know if you want to see more deinfluencing and what I should be deinfluencing next!

That hidden wine pouch screams "I have an alcohol problem but want to make it cute and quirky"

Without Cara I wouldn't even know 90% of those trends. Thanks for keeping me informed AND safely away from all of that :)

The water activated towels were cool as a small child but they’re washcloth sized. So it’s understandable why youd get them wet first. And usually they were mystery designs. Sorry, that item just like transported me back

I would love to see your take on booktok/bookstagram inspired consumerism. When I was a teen, you could be a reader with a library card and sprawling on your bed. Now I see everyone buying bookinspired outfits, shelfs, fancy string lights, making expensive and barely comfortable reading nooks, and buying huge amounts of books they don't end up reading even in multiple editions. While I don't want to shame people for these actions, I think there's still a point to be made about performing your identity through consumption on book social media.

5:40 If you reuse old takeout containers, or even cleaned original containers from some foods (eg. sour cream tubs, etc) you never have to worrt about not getting your "good" Tupperware back when you give someone food.

Are Stanleycups spillproof? If yes Stanley could make a drinking helmet with stanley cups. New boss enemy for Cara.

This is where living in the Southern Hemisphere and in the opposite season at all times actually pays off. Whenever a season specific item goes viral, the likelihood of being influenced to buy it is so much lower, as it wouldn't be used for another 6 months.

The tote bag with the secret wine compartment gives alcoholic vibes. Yikes! And it sounds like something that after the first use will stink for all eternity.

oh i bought those towels once. they are tissue thin and you can *maybe* use them a whole of three times if you take utmost care to not break them lol i love the idea of expandable stuff cause saving space while travelling, but this is saving neither space nor money 😂

Brands making claims about their sunscreens being "Reef Safe" is unfortunately a form of greenwashing.

The study about reef safety and sunscreens has been misinterpreted on many ocasions and the term itself is not regulated by law. Also you only really need to worry about it if you are going to swim in an area with reefs. Lab Muffin Beauty Science has said more on this subject if someone is interested.

Other than this it was a great video and I love being deinfluenced 💛

It actually baffles me how people buy from fast fashion brands only intending to wear their items a handful of times or until they’re not trendy anymore because my favourite coat is from a fast fashion brand, I bought it secondhand…seven years ago!! I’ve worn it countless times and it’s still going strong.

And please continue to bully the Stanley cup trend with all its ridiculous accessories.

Hey Cara! Great video! Just a note, check out LabMuffinBeautyScience’s videos about sunscreen myths. In it she discusses how the idea of sunscreen being unsafe for reefs is largely not proven and was based off of some sketchy studies. Of course we should try to use environment friendly products, but this advice of “reef friendly” tends to turn off people from using sunscreen altogether because the reef friendly ones tend to sit badly on the skin. Love that you said its best to use any sunscreen instead of none tho 🥰

My dog would LOVE a lounge chair... but only if it's for the humans. He has to be able to steal your seat and feel tall, neither of which that accomplishes.

So wild to see the water activated towels as a "hot trend" when 30 years ago they were like a souvenir shop novelty gift that you got from a trip but didn't take much space. and it was the worst towel to use as a towel, but it was a souvenir.

They've been selling those 'expand when wet' towels at dollar tree for years 😭

However they're usually quite small towels with cartoon characters from shows/movies aimed at kids, so I'm assuming they're used to clean up spills

That being said though, having a huge version of these towels makes no sense other than to make a lazy product and hope someone buys it 0_o
