It's not just resources but also defense and trade. For example, Tibet's Himalayas is a natural defense against China's rival and America's ally, India. If war broken out between the US and China over Taiwan and India joined on the side off the US, China would be very vulnerable to being attacked from India if it didn't have Tibet.

As for trade, Xinjiang was historically a vital route for China on the silk road and today is important for China's Belt Road Initiative.

well 20 years ago...china was probly one of the poorest u cant expect 20 years later, entire china become mega city like shanghai, beijing shezhen and so on... lol if that happens... pretty sure china is number one country economically
