Hey Tim I've been doing ESL teaching for over 4 years. Two years in person teaching in Korea. And I've been doing online ESL teaching for just about 2 years. It has been quite the journey. I followed a similar path as you talked about. 1.5 years with Open English while building up my own independent students for about a year on Preply. Now I just have my own independent students. It is a grind but really rewarding once things pick up steam. Great advice! You seem like a very nice person.

It's so hard, I lack knowledge, resources, I don't know how to do ESL on my own. You suggested a company on another video, I applied but nothing. Right now I'm signed up to VIPlearn, Native, Accent but building something takes too long. Working full time for AMEX but I hate it, I feel hopeless. I've been doing ESL online for 5 years, VIPKID, MagicEars, BlingABC. I will keep listening to you.., .

So thankful for you, Tim! Your guidance and humbleness is just wonderful to not just me, but SO many others. I continued to so enjoy your channel. Am so appreciative of your knowledge and guidance for it is a process. :)

Is there anyone who would like to teach English to Japanese students online? It does not matter if you are native or non-native English speaker. No need for a degree or any kind of certificate. All lessons are prepared in advance. For more info, reply to this comment.

Hi Tim, any tips on how to access Chinese and Non-Chinese social media. I tried looking for student groups on Facebook but couldn't really find any.

I am South African. I do not think my accent is popular therefore I think going solo is a waste of time. I am currently working for a company, but I also see that many companies do not hire South Africans these days, therefore I would be reluctant to go solo. Of course if I was North American or British then I would consider going solo.

Thank you Tim for sharing! Why did you choose Bangkok? Also, I am looking forward to travelling and teaching as a retiree in my 60s. But I heard that Korea does not hire or allow seniors to teach there in person. Is this true?

Your course is expensive. I mean what if i sign up for the course then i feel it's not for me?

Very informative thanks for posting. Most teachers, including myself, spend lots of time marketing on the major platforms to attract more students. The hard truth is it's a rollercoaster ride each month. Going solo is the sensible path.
