what i like about linux is its flexibility, you can run servers, do office-work and stuff, what I hate about Linux is, that it doesn't appeal to the normal user. Even Ubuntu, that is just made for this purpose, is mainly unknown in the group of the userbase it should appeal.

Richard Stallman videos got me started in Linux Groups, I now have near 900 Computers, so I, m happy there are more than enough choices of OS no mater how many computers I get :) QC

I should also mention there is no such thing technically as a "Linux Distro". Linus Torvalds didn't do everything, he really only wrote the kernel. Although a good working kernel is necessary, what makes Linux great is it is a big puzzle of modular pieces of software that can be added and interchanged to make your own version.

For everyone who is saying "Linux is not the operating system"... Chris is saying that it is one for the purpose of this video without getting too technical. It's easier to say that it's an operating system.

i use Ubuntu linux on my old laptop, i take it to tech demo's and presentations for my robotics group, and often there is 1 or 2 people that go "woah! you know about linux?"

Ubuntu is my favorite distro mainly because i've used it the most, i used open suse for about 2 months, and fedora for about the same time, but now have been using Ubuntu since 7.xx .

@MrMacgeek1 Linux isn't about making money other then companies that sell support like Red Hat. Linux and Open source is about corporations, individuals, governments, and anyone else I missed sharing modifications to code and working together to fix common problems in software.

I love Linux. I like it when you make Linux videos.

@MrMacgeek1 linux isnt a company. its an operating system. like i said to macintoshuser1986, novell does offer paid support for their distros. also, canonical and other companies that develop distros offer classes and certification for their distros. the money they get from these services goes back into development.

@snake2006 It's closer to 7 billion as of 2008. It's probably well over that by now.

Linux unbuntu is a pretty good OS for something that is free. I would recommend it to anyone who serf the web all day. I know there's not a lot of software compatibility with it right now, however the os is more than great seeing that it's free.

@SteveWiilliams18 Linux is still heavily geared towards server administration and as a programming environment rather then desktop use.

@MacintoshUser1986 Linux is Unix btw. It adheres to all the standards of Unix and any linux vendor can legally therefore use the Unix trademark. OSX is based on BSD which also adheres to the standards of UNIX. No one has used the actual Unix code developed at AT&T's bell labs forever.

I agree that the world is better with open source. People like to do whatever they want with their stuff. Open source makes that possible.

I have always loved Fedora Distro! I have no idea why but I can work better with it since it's part of the RedHat distro and its what I know.

hey chris, i watched your video for the ipad screen protector from newer technologies, and i purchased it and love it, i really like that it uses static cling instead of adhesive to maintain touch sensitivity and reduce bubbles, but they dont sell them for the iphone 4, do you know where i can get a good iphone 4 screen protector, i am especially interested in one that is a two piece that protects the front and back glass from scratches, thanks in advance

@blackknight509 in a few years, there will be an open-source program for linux, that will bring the entire creative suite :D

@hkseo100 Not really, Mac OS X is basically a unix operating system which is entirely based on the linux kernel

Well wireless cards are supported pretty well with WINDOWS drivers. Sadly yes the "standard" still is either Mac or WIndows. But there is a change in the air and nowadays much hardware that was hard to get working nowadays works out of the box. As long as it is old enough to be recognized.
Of course even under windows you need to install driver, using wired network and some time on the forums one usually can get odd hardware to work.
