You don’t understand how much help you have been to family and I during our first year of homeschool.

We have also, most of the time ended up combining two different math curriculums because yeah, you're right that they all have pros and cons, and weak places!

In the elementary years we use a great science encyclopedia (Kingfisher and Usborne make wonderful ones); Janice Van Cleave experiment books (check them out at the library) and our library card for topical study. We also use the Handbook of Nature Study and field guides (Peterson Pocket Guides and National Wildlife Federation make excellent ones). We keep a backpack with all of the science tools ( mini pocket microscope, insect jars, binoculars, compass, etc.) If you are interested in standardized testing and state requirements then you could target those areas using the encyclopedia and books from the library. We use a similar approach to history. We start out with lots of geography and cultural studies and then build out a timeline from a great history encyclopedia. My son has used this approach and now in the upper grades he is breezing through more traditional textbooks.

I love that - the honeymoon phase of new curriculum. It’s so, so true!

I love watching your homeschool updates!! So great that so much is working so well for you! We actually really love the science units! I usually prep all the cutting things before we begin the unit. We use books from the library to add to it and follow rabbit trails. I think every unit is a bit different as well as far as the layout and quantity of activities. Masterbooks science looks wonderful too though! :)

Thanks for the updates! I love how much notebooking plays a role in your homeschool:) It is also so neat how comfortable you are with her writing/grammar journey!

This is such an awesome run down- we are pandemic homeschoolers as well who then feel in love with the process! Thank you for your opinion and ideas for curriculum

Really enjoyed your mid-year curriculum update. Thank you for giving the Living Art Lessons review. This is something that I'm looking into.

We really like MB for science too! Raise the Bar Reading has some great resources on teachers pay teachers. I got her writing and reading anchor chart bundles. It goes through the concepts in such a concise way. It helps with all the different concepts I want to make sure we get covered. Spelling I needed to go hands on so we are trying All About Spelling. Thanks for your reviews. I really appreciate how you go through and say what you like and don't like. That is really helpful :)

Brittany, I can't tell you how helpful this was! I was browsing Amazon as you were discussing each subject, lol and I loved hearing what you liked and didn't like about each curriculum. Thank you for your honest opinions, it was so helpful!

When I do The Good and Beautiful science, I just ask my own questions to see if they comprehended what I read. You can always add your own elements to any curriculum. I add read alouds to some of our curriculums.

I really like that idea of worldly wise - to combine spelling with the words. So smart!

I feel the same way about TGTB science. My daughter loved all the activities (but some of them didn't end up working) but she didn't love the actual curriculum....not enough content I think. And i agree about the testing on the science units too. We;ve been back and forth with math from TGTB and Abeka and feel the same way about TGTB with not enough sprial. My daughter actually asked to go back to Abeka because she felt a little bored because she had already learned things in TGTB 4. We did the art from Masterbooks last year and LOVED it!

We’re pandemic homeschoolers as well 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I love it!!!
My son will be completing the good and beautiful language arts at the end of January. I was debating on just moving on to the next level, but I like your idea of letting your child be creative and write their own poems and stories. I’m going to give that a try! Thanks for sharing 😃

I am pandemic homeschooler too 😘.
I combined Saxon Math 1 with Math U see Primer and it works for my 6 year old, and sometimes I would use teachers pay teachers for extra help in math concepts. Thank you for your video.

I use masterbooks for all of our curriculum but math to make sure there is no gaps we use rod and staff which as helped so much to just make sure my girls understand the concepts. I have been looking at grammar supplement with rod and staff cause the math is so good.

I would love to hear you review of worldly wise! Yikes I feel like the science from the good and the beautiful might overwhelm me... we will find out though... I'm going to start it in th new year with the kids 😅
