Baldur's Gate 3 Is Doing The UNTHINKABLE...

For many RPG fans such as myself, Baldur's Gate 3 was easily at the top of our most anticipated games list. However, what few of us expected was the splash into mainstream, record breaking numbers, and overall monstrous success that this game has been. Quality was a safe expectation, but I can't saw we saw this coming.

It's crazy that a turn based dungeon and dragons and style RPG would hook me so much since im typically an action RPG fan, but this game is truly legendary and Larian has quickly become one of my favorite devs.

I literally just got a Warhammer 40k ultimate starter set last week, my first foray into tabletop gaming, and BG3 now makes sense to me. I'm going full nerd now as a nearly 50 year old man and loving it.

Never played a CRPG before, the closest I've played to BG3 was Dragon Age Origins.

Gave it a shot anyway, and while I still struggle with the gameplay I love the game, the characters, the lore, the choices, all completely uplifts the game and makes me appreciate the gameplay more.

Truly a gem the devs should be proud of!

I am 20 hours in and just getting a grasp on how the mechanics work. Playing previous Larian games helps for sure. The DICE roll aspect adds something I did not know I wanted in a game. You can just tell how much work went into this game. The visuals, the quality is jut there if you are into this type of game.

I had tried Divinity 2 on a whim a while back and really dug it. I played enough to know Larian can be trusted and now that I've been playing BG3, the hype around this one has been well deserved.

It's not unthinkable at all. Larian's pedigree speaks for itself. People are only surprised because Diablo, Final Fantasy, and Starfield were sucking all of the RPG oxygen out of the room during the first seven months of 2023.

This game is the type of game we might see every ten or 15 years its a game that changes what dev's think we gamers want, it showed last year with Elden Ring and now with this masterpiece, and i know some people enjoyed ff16 and am glad they did but i hated it and its because of the lack of customization and rpg elements and BG3 is a rpg fans dream game, such a good year to be a gamer with Starfield coming out soon, gonna be a fun year.

I wasn't prepared on how similar this feels to Dragon Age Origins. Nothing has been able to scratch that medieval dark fantasy RPG itch for me since finishing DA in 2009 until now. This game is actually making me feel nostalgic for some reason, and I haven't even played a Baldur's Gate game or a Larian game before. It's amazing.

Being able to craft such a dynamic storyline is an accomplishment in itself. The writers deserve some props too.

Having an absolute blast with BG3. Theres so much passion behind the characters, landscape so far is gorgeous. I hope this is a wake up call to other studios that microtransactions and live service content is anti-fun.

BG3 was definitely not on my radar at all. Never played D&D before. And now it's probably one of the best RPG's I've ever played. I love it

A big reason is also because Swen and his wife who own Larian are an actual gamers - not to mention most of the team members are HUGE D&D fans/players!

Similarly to Miyazaki-san and FromSoftware. If you have people in charge, that also love what they do? It's trully magical ;)

I think you hit the nail on the head about people wanting deeper rpgs. Stop watering down games for people who dont play video games. Make games for gamers. People who dont play video games will follow.

The Baldur's Gate 3 hype has had me rethinking playing turn based CRPG's and then I realized I had Divinity Original Sin 2 on Steam and downloaded it to see if I like game like this before spending money on Baldur's Gate 3. I surprisingly like it a lot so far and it's giving me faith I will love Baldur's Gate 3. I just wish I had a GPU to play it.
