We were invited to an Amish service when we were in Ohio October 2022. After the service we were invited to stay for the meal. Bean soup, fresh bread, Amish peanut butter and all types of cookies and cake.

One of the Amish stores in nearby Windsor, MO has homemade vanilla ice cream on Saturdays during the summer. It's made with milk from their dairy farm. The real deal!

The very best part of the Amish Church Meal is the fellowship. The foods were far less important than talking with friends and relatives. I have some kind of non-allergic reaction to all peanut based foods, including that peanut butter - marshmallow mix spread. 1 bite of that stuff resulted in 12 hours of diarrhea which is not funny when all you have is an outhouse(I know, TMI dude). I learned very quickly to ask about it and eventually recognized it without help. It was served at every one of the 66 Amish church services and the 1 funeral I went to. I loved the jelly - marshmallow spread though! And the cheese spread on bread! And then there was always that first tomato of the season! Those were always great! But as I said, it was the talking that was most important and made the meal special.

I have had the opportunity to taste the delightful Amish Peanut Butter spread while visiting in Lancaster, it was amazing, we also tried a Snitz Pie and I have to say I'd take it over a regular apple pie any day. I have a question for you, perhaps you have the answer, I know that for a long time the Amish young people who were marrying would marry after the harvest, we were told by an Amish man who said they were busy growing cucumbers for the wedding feast for his daughter. I'm sure he gave us the reason but it was many years ago and it has slipped my mind, but I'd love to be reminded. Thank you for sharing and enlightening us on the Amish ways.

I bought some Amish peanut butter at the PA Dutch Farmer's market in Columbus NJ. I'm not sure if it was the church peanut butter, though. It wasn't oily and runny like the natural peanut butter. I think it had molasses in it and it was whipped. It came in a plastic container.

Amish PB sounds like the "Fluffer-Nutter" recipe - my all time favorite kid sandwich. (Fluff marshmallow creme with Jiff/Skippy PB on white bread. With a tall glass of ice cold milk.)

Do they discuss their faith or the church service with you, since you probably don't understand the day's message?

Another good thing about these meals besides being made from scratch, the people's tummies are growling after thec4 hour service.
The preaching elders have O Bible training so ramble on confirming to their traditional beliefs. They do not preach biblical absolutes. Many Bible believing Amish have been excommunicated from the church because of this.
