Finally an analysis on the iphone log that isn't made by some youtubers who are far from being professional colorists, thanks for taking the time to ask somes pros and give us your thoughts as well

I just got the 15 pro max and, as an animator with some background in photography, I think they WAYYYY undersold the capabilities of the updated camera. Holy crap it is so fun and powerful.

For the record my finger never touched a single screen.

Definitely cool to see that they’ve given some control of the picture back.

This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my YouTube channel 8 months ago about self development. Now I have 1, 177 subs and > 1, 000 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.

I'm really happy to see smart people in the comments who actually understand what Apple Log is, not people comparing Samsung to iPhone, I'm really learning a lot just reading some comments here, I'm also planning on experimenting with Apple Log soon

Now I’m afraid to touch my own iPhone screen 😅

The power of a reference monitor cannot possibly be overstated. The Sony 310 shows exactly what is there. Without it, little can be reliably accomplished in terms of a final look. It has to be seen to be believed. I feel like I can fly into the images, so perfectly do they mimic what I see in real life. Just like the recording studio speakers we spend car money on, there is no other way to get there.

I find that if you're working in a Rec.709 timeline, the iPhone Log footage is in Rec.2020 and you need to override the colour space to 709 before applying a Log to 709 LUT as the greens and blues will be overly saturated and look unnatural due to the extra latitude of Rec.2020 in those colours. I got the Apple Log to Rec.709 LUT from the apple dev kit as a baseline and it's great, then I can just work around with that. I'm still testing things, I only just got the 15 Pro Max a couple weeks ago.

Finally an iPhone 15 Pro Log review and analysis you can take to the bank. Thank you Mark and Co. I watched the review on a 65" Samsung QLED so I could watch the video in a bit more detail,

Great video! Super informative and inspiring to start shooting log. — super annoying when we all have that friend that cannot stop touching your screens though 😅

Agree completely - the iPhone is not idiot proof. Your phrase "If you want to use it as a cinema camera, you have to treat it as one." The same doubters are mocking Apple for having shot their Scary Fast Event for substation the cinema camera with an iPhone. They think you can walk around and get amazing work. A good videographer knows the limits of his camera and is able to create amazing videos by knowing how to properly use it. So Amen brother - best advice you can give anyone. BTW - I am getting simply amazing and stunning footage off my iPhone 15 Pro Max with BMC app. It has been a game changer for me and I know a lot of other people now are believers. ♥♥♥ BTW - I have several LUTS but I also have a PowerGrade that I use for most iPhone ProRes 422LT footage. You may want to look at developing your own power grade and can use it with LUTS.

Great unbiased review of things on this video for sure. Crazy set up he has for that grading but when you're working with footage like that I'm sure it's the norm.

Great point on “if you want to make it look like a cinema cam, you’ll have to treat it like a cinema cam.” So many “high end” youtubers putting out videos why it can’t replace their main cam and showing some sh!tty vlog footage where they’ve put in 1% of the love in making the video of what they would do when using a Alexa eg. I’d love to see someone like Mark making a feature film with iPhone, even if that means that it will be ready when the next iPhone is launched next year, when the iPhone 15 topic isn’t trending anymore. I know this phone is capable of these things, but somehow no one takes the time to produce something that really shows the true capabilities of the phone.

You missed a real opportunity for using the part of Jurassic park where he touched the screen 😂.
