It's crazy to believe I have only been living in my new home in Chelsea, Quebec and I've already discovered SO many cool things here - including Monotropa uniflora. Also known as ghost plant, ghost pipe, or Indian pipe, is an herbaceous perennial flowering plant native to temperate regions of Asia, North America, and northern South America!

The ghost pipe plant, also known as the Indian pipe or Monotropa uniflora, is an unusual and fascinating species renowned for its ghostly, pure white appearance. This plant gets its name from its eerie, pipe-like shape and its lack of chlorophyll, the green pigment typically found in plants that’s crucial for photosynthesis. Because it doesn’t photosynthesize, the ghost pipe plant is completely white, including its stem and scale-like "leaves." Instead of relying on sunlight, it forms a symbiotic relationship with fungi in the soil to obtain nutrients. This rare and mysterious plant is often sought after by nature enthusiasts and foragers, adding to its intrigue.
