Hurt is like a man singing at his own funeral.

Let's all take a moment to imagine an aging Johnny Cash listening to 90s industrial rock in his house when he first discovered Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt."

I read an article awhile back where Bob Dylan said the All along the Watchtower wasn't his song it was Jimi's song because he took it and made it better than he ever imagined it could be.

The thought of David Bowie and Kurt Cobain collaborating gave me chills

I always thought “I Love Rock and Roll” was written by Joan Jett. She owned that song. Never fails to get you to turn it up!

Johnny Cash, covering NIN’s “Hurt” was simply BRILLIANT, his rendition showed humility which he was feeling for so many years of his life for doing some ‘subtle’ but not too good things in his life. & the video is beautiful, with how it shows home movie clips of his life, & continuously goes back to his fragile older self, singing. BRAVO JOHNNY CASH BRAVO!

NiN: " Wow we couldnt have done this song any better." Johnny Cash: "Hold my beer."

Joe Cocker's version of "A little Help from my friends" and Chris Cornell's version of "Nothing Compares 2 U" are my faves after Cash's "Hurt"

one of my all time favorite quotes comes from when Trent Reznor was asked how he felt about Cash covering his song, he responded 'It's not my song anymore."

Nirvanas unplugged cover of "Where did you sleep last night" will always be my favorite cover with "Hurt" by Johnny Cash a very close runner up

Quiet Riot left out? They set hair metal in overdrive in the mainstream with Cum On Feel The Noize, a Slade original from 1973.

Johnny sang Hurt not long after June had passed... I've always felt he poured his heart into the song and let his hurt at losing June flow through

Johnny Cash’s cover of NIN’s “Hurt” is amazing and very hair raising because it fits his life story perfectly.

My 2 fave covers are HIM's cover of Chris Isaac's "Wicked Game" and Tool's cover of Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter."

Heart, Ann and Nancy Wilson, a serious band including John Bonham's son on the drums with choir covering Zep's Stairway To Heaven for the Kennedy Center Honors. Simply amazing and moved Robert Plant to tears and got Jimmy Page into such a groove...probably the BEST cover I've ever heard from anyone. Just an absolute work of art.

Joe Cocker "With a little help from my friends" should be on this list. Also Gary Jules "Mad World" cover should at least be an honorable mention.

I personally prefer Land of Confusion over Sound of Silence for Disturbed, but making that choice is not something I enjoy doing since they are so vastly different and yet are both so amazing. I also just feel like mentioning Bad Company from Five Finger Death Punch as one of the best covers just because it feels so right in their style
