WHAT IS AN "ARRAIGNMENT" IN NEVADA?

The first court date in a Nevada case is an arraignment. It's where the state formally brings charges against the defendant in Nevada, and the defendant enters a plea.

In most Nevada criminal cases the defendant will plead "not guilty," though this doesn't prevent him/her from later pleading guilty (or no contest) as part of a plea negotiation. The Nevada judge then sets a future court date, by which time the case will either be resolved or else go to trial.
