Let’s not forget that Rise of Skywalker was a case of trying to please everyone but it ended up pleasing no one

Son of the Mask is a perfect example of, if your lead won't return, don't make a sequel at all. Even if you do continue with a sequel (if you can technically still call it that), instead creating whole new characters, do a story about a supporting character from the original film. True, it's definitely not the same without the true lead, but at least your somewhat continuing a story
Evan Almighty is a great example of this. Evan Baxter was in Bruce Almighty and when Jim Carrey chose not to return for a sequel, the story was reworked to focus on Evan. While it was nowhere near as great as Bruce Almighty, it was still a better sequel than Son of the Mask

Joker: Folie A Deux was a disappointment ( so I've heard) and Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker was a major disappointment.

Hangover part 3 was horrendous. But my most hated sequel was Zoolander 2! There use to be a theater where I live in Ventura that had $1 Tuesday movies. I saw Zoolander 2 there for $1 and STILL wanted my money back 🤦🏽‍♂️

Thor Love and Thunder was a huge dissappointment after Ragnarok

In no particular order:

1. Blues Brothers 2000
2. More American Graffiti (depressing, no fun like the original)
3. Jaws: The Revenge
4. The Black Stallion Returns
5. Staying Alive (sequel to Saturday Night Fever)
6. Smokey and the Bandit 3 (Burt Reynolds and Sally Field weren't even in it!)
7. Airplane II (recycled jokes and William Shatner!)

And please, Tom Hanks, if you're reading this, no sequel ever to That Thing You Do! That was a perfect standalone movie!

I like Alien 3. It's a good, atmospheric horror movie. Of course, it is not on the same level as the 2 masterpieces before but far better than Alien 4.
