Anthemius was the last Roman emperor of the west of any real consequence. He was a good administrator and managed to unite the disparate parts of the western Roman Empire together. However, his failure abroad and enemies at home eventually brought his reign to an end. but This is also an April Fool edition of Eastern Roman History.

I found gold coins from the Byzantine period in a region close to Turkey's border with Iran last week. I handed it over to the museum staff. They said it was from the time of Konstantinos Doukas (1059-1067). There was a depiction of Jesus on one side of the money and the depiction of the emperor on the other.

If Anthemius had not been killed in 472 if he got Leo I's secret letter before Ricimer did, perhaps the Western Roman Empire would have still lived on for a bit longer.
