B. Bartók - Sonata for 2 Pianos and Percussion
First Movement: Assai lento - Allegro molto
Güher & Süher Pekinel - piano
Peter Sadlo & Stefan Gagelmann - percussion

The œuvre of Béla Bartók is one of the most fascinating stirrings of the musical spirit in the twentieth century. Bartók was fifty-six years old, and in full possession of his artistic powers, when he wrote the Sonata for 2 Pianos and Percussion in 1937. The Sonata is interesting not only for the immense diversity of instrumental colour combinations, but also for its direction and the alternate co-operation and conflict between the pianos and the percussion: the two groups of instruments supplement each other and are dependent on one another.
