Wow all those movies trailers keep coming daily. I love this one, I read it didn’t do well in theaters because New World Pictures went bankrupt during its release but was quite a hit on the home video market. I can’t remember if I rented the VHS, I clearly remember spotted it at the vidéoclub or if I only discovered it on TV, by TV I mean Canal+ which I wasn’t subscribed to at that time but managed to have access to it at people’s houses during the holidays. That channel used to air every movie releases and that’s how I know a lot of movies existence from that era because I don’t remember to ever saw it aired on mainstream national tv with a lot of many others movies such as Scrooged…. Etc… Without that movie channel I would have never known those movies ever existed or much more later eventually, thanks to internet and YouTube channels like this one.

I remember watching it back at my second house

This does have a Tim Burton vibe for sure yet director James Signoreli has enough of a macabre sense of humor and fun
The lead actress Cassandra Peterson brings her best to the role not letting anything phase her being the typical fish out of water
Lots of funny lines and colorful character actors
Didn't exactly set the box office on fire and was met with mixed reactions but later would find a market on home video making a cult following and reevaluated by critics
Amazingly this movie would appeal to the LGBT community latching into the fish out of water element as well as the campier stuff
So thankfully the film found its footing later throughout time and Peterson completely owned the persona of Elvira pitching another 2001 film and a tv pilot in 1993
She had a cultural fan base appealing to the queer community cementing her status in the role
