I have the Makita XGD01 36 Volt earth auger which is a 1/2” right angle drill with a special handle and body brace that can drill 8” holes 41” deep as well as being used as a 1/2” drill.

The Ryobi 40volt auger is junk. It can't handle red clay soil or soil with small rocks. The motor is trash, save your money and buy a different auger. I wouldn't pay more than $50 bucks for a Ryobi auger. They are poorly constructed and cheaply-made.
It's almost all plastic inside.

Besides hedge trimmers and other light implements, battery powered tools are no replacement for gas powered ones. Not for lawn mowers, augers, snow throwers (the battery powered ones are a joke), log splitters and so on.
