This video features the incredible African dung beetle, the unsung hero of the animal kingdom, as it expertly rolls a big ball of animal dung. Watch in amazement as this tiny creature tackles the big job of cleaning up the savannah.

My tour guides all know that when I'm on safari, if we see a Dung Beetle we have to stop and watch the entertainment with the guests. They are fascinating to watch.

Why do Dung Beetles do this? Dung beetles roll dung into balls to use as a food source and/or to bury it as a source of nutrition for their larvae. Adult dung beetles typically feed on dung, while their larvae consume the dung within the burrow. Dung beetles also use dung balls to provision their burrows with food for their developing offspring. In addition to providing food, dung balls also serve as a breeding chamber for the beetles, which lay their eggs in or near the dung balls.

Join me on safari to see African Dung Beetles up close.
