Living Colour - Cult of Personality (Guitar Cover)

The subtitle of this cover should be 'Liberty City' as I took plenty liberties on Vernon's solos but I don't think I could ever copy them exact and I'm sure the man himself plays it different each time. Superb parts in this one and probably the hardest 'simple' sounding riff ever. I think Vernon is a very innovative player, very unique and I love watching his Rig Rundowns. Hope you enjoy! :)

I use a Jackson DK2 Dinky from 2004 (I removed the tone pot and moved the volume over) into a Boss Me50 (where I get my tone) into a Palmer Pdi-09 (which simulated a mic'd up cab) into a Focusrite Scarlett into my computer running Logic Pro X (where I add a little EQ and Reverb).

F.A.Q
My headphones are purposely like that so they stay out of the way. The cable is very long.

Regarding Vernon Reid's style: Haters have said the same thing about the pentatonic scale long ago...calling it odd and not a real scale. They said the same thing about the blues scale...calling it a scale with the wrong note, they said Hendrix was odd and strange, they said Wes Montgomery was odd and strange for playing with his thumb, they said Allan Holdsworth was odd and weird for using random notes....etc etc.
Vernon created one of the most iconic riffs in rock history...So...
FORGET ALL THE HATERS...THOSE GUITARIST WERE MASTERS...AND... THIS MUSIC ROCKS!!!

That solo is the definition of capturing lightning in a bottle. I applaud and appreciate you tackling it!

Everything about this song is awesome, the vocals, lyrics, guitars, and especially the drumming. I wish I could go back to these days.💖

A song even more relevant today than it was when it was made.

Such an underrated band! Open letter to a landlord is another belter of a tune from them.

That’s got to be the hardest piece in the rock guitarists playbook. Superbly done and the whammy bar parts 👌👌👌

Nailed it ben!
I once read that the guitarist said he was never able to play the solo live like he did in the recording. And that every time he did it, it was a little different.
I remember them doing it live on the arsinio hall show and I was majorly disappointed in the solo. But mad props to you ben. You smashed it. 🙌

That was an incredible attempt at trying capture a solo that was a controlled frenzy. Vernon Reid is psychedelic funk, jazz, and metal all in one.

The riff is also difficult. That extra note at on the second and fourth pass through is the deal breaker. So many people miss it.
